Clarke of Vernon Hills, IL is seeking to hire a Field Inspection Technician who will be responsible for applying larvicide to mosquito breeding sites in an effort to control mosquito populations. ***please note this position will require travel to Roselle, IL once per week in the afternoon to attend a mandatory team meeting.***


This position earns a competitive wage of $13/hr. and generally works 6:00 am 4:00 pm Monday- Thursday, and Fridays as needed (end times may vary based on business needs). The Field Inspection Technician works on average 40+ hours per week and supports the summer seasonal operations (generally April September). Use of personal vehicle is required and a .52 cent mileage reimbursement will be provided.


As a Field Inspection Technician, you are responsible for driving your personal vehicle (typically leaving from home in the mornings, reporting in to the office in Vernon Hills in the afternoon) to potential breeding sites and inspecting standing water for mosquito larvae. Your role as a Field Inspection Technician will provide immediate results twaterways by delivering hand applications of mosquito larvicide. You love your Field Technician job as you get to be out of an office and enjoying nature during the early morning hours. A map will be given to you by your supervisor for you to utilize as you safely navigate to inspection sites. You have excellent attention to detail as you assess mosquito breeding activity and document your findings. You take pride in your work knowing that your contributions are making a direct impact on the environment.

When you are not out inspecting and treating sites, you are performing inspections and maintenance on your vehicle, attending training, and helping in other aspects of your field. Your passion for public health, the outdoors, and nature shines through as you complete your work each day.

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Possess a high school degree or equivalent with high school level math skills
  • Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
  • Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
  • Provide proof of vehicle insurance
  • Ability to sit and drive a vehicle for extended periods of time as well as walk extensively
  • Required to pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam (training provided)
  • Capable of using handheld technical devices including, but not limited to, smartphones, GPS, system applications
  • Have good physical dexterity and the ability to bend and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable performing assigned duties outdoors while walking through various and challenging terrain, including but not limited to water, heavy vegetation and uneven land, throughout residential communities, urban environments and forested areas where environmental conditions are affected by weather
